Big Day!

Yesterday was a big day in our house. My little 7-week-old decided that he doesn't like tummy-time. His solution? Roll over! I can't believe that time is really going this quickly. Wasn't I just in the hospital giving birth to him? Truthfully, I'm not sure if this counts a developmental milestone. =) It may just be that his head is too heavy for him to control, so he lets it carry him to his back. Either way, I'm proud!

While Jackson was performing for me, Gracie was doing her big girl stuff by completing some homework! I've decided that I really want to work with Gracie to make her ready for kindergarten. She already goes to preschool (since she was 2!) and has a fabulous teacher. My hope is that homework time with her dad and me will just help her that much more. The best part is that Gracie really seems to enjoy it.

I found some printables online for preschoolers. Yesterday she worked on writing A and B on lines. She likes doing freehand printing, but is not crazy about being confined to lines. I employed the technique that my third grade teacher taught me. The top and bottom lines are the "bread" and the dotted line in the middle is the "peanut butter." =) Teaching her how to write her letters with these tricks seemed to make it a little more acceptable to her. After she finishes writing the letters, she gets to color the model letters. We then decide which of the letters is her best from each set. Those get circled and I put a little star next to them. Once everything on the paper is finished, I put a happy face at the top. She got a little frustrated, but in the end was very proud of herself.
