Welcome!

So, my best friend has been posting a blog about her twins for some time. A while ago she tried to convince me to start. She piqued my interest...

Welcome to Gracie's blog! I will use this page to post day to day happenings in our life. Since Gracie is the center of our world, she will be the focus of most posts. I hope that you enjoy reading about our beautitul little girl!

Since this is my first post, I'll take some time to catch everyone up on Gracie's life. Gracie will be two next Friday! It's difficult to believe that our baby is growing so fast. "Time flies" is such a cliche, but it's so true.

Talking did not seem to be too important to Grace. For a long time, she had her few words and phrases that she used repeatedly. These included, "what's that?" and "mom." Unfortunately for me, the word mom did not refer to me. It was (is) Gracie's catch-all word for "gimme," I want that," and "look." About two weeks ago, Gracie finally decided that it was time to expand her vocabulary. She will repeat just about anything (uh oh!), can count to ten, and has finally started calling me Mommy. Hearing her say "Mommy" is pretty much the best sound in the world!

Another exciting development for Grace is that she will be starting preschool this summer. My wonderful church has an equally wonderful preschool. Gracie will go two half-days a week. One of the best parts about this is that my friend's daughter will also be in Gracie's class. It will be so fun to see them playing together and getting to know one another! Preschool will be wonderful for Gracie. She may love her parents and grandparents, but she's ready to start making friends.

For those of you who don't know, my pregnancy with Gracie was bittersweet. I had some tests at 18 weeks that showed that there was a chance Gracie had Down Syndrome. At 20 weeks, a doctor (an ultrasound specialist, not my Ob-Gyn) mentioned termination as an option. Drew and I knew, though, that that was not an option we were going to take. We already knew Gracie and loved her. Obviously, we wanted her to be healthy, but we knew that we would love her no matter what. The three of us are blessed to have incredible friends and family. We had many, many people praying for Gracie's health. We all know that Gracie's birth ended happily. Our miracle was born healthy, 8 lb. 9 oz. healthy! A major bonus for us was that she turned out to be gorgeous as well!

Nearly two years later, and I still have not forgotten the intense feeling of joy and relief that I felt when I heard my Ob-Gyn say, "Her eyes look fine, her head looks fine. I think she's fine, Lyndie." Fine has turned out to be an understatement, for sure! Gracie has blessed our lives in ways we never imagined!
